Skywalk Biokovo is a new attraction in Croatia. A must see they say.
Located on the mountain Biokovo on a hight of 1228 meters above sea level it gives you a spectacular view over the sea and the islands.
The Skywalk attracted not just tourists from all over the world but also many famous actors, football players, and many other stars. Photographers and Influencers took the best shots on the Biokovo mountain and published pictures that got recognised worldwide.
Just a hype or is it really worth visiting ?
Enjoy the morning or go for the Sunset
Since the temperatures can get really high during the summer season, the suggestion is to go in the morning hours. Also you can avoid the traffic if you choose to go before 8:00.
The standard procedure for getting tickets is to go on the official website of the nature park and choose a date & time. You have to book it online in advance and come to the entrance of the nature park prepared with your tickets.
A solution for avoiding traffic jams and buying tickets by yourself is to choose guided tours from local tour agencies in Makarska. These agencies don't need to wait at the entrance of the nature park and you get the tickets directly from their side.
If you are more the romantic type of person, go around 18:00 and enjoy the spectacular sunset that will take your breathe away. A view that you will remember for the rest of your life.
How to prepare for your trip to Skywalk Biokovo
Come on time. If you have booked your tickets, come at least 20 minutes before your booked time slot.
Water, sungalasses, sunscreen, sun hat and warm clothes should be taken with you. Even in the summer it can get cold up there.
Be prepared for a narrow street. The street to the Skywalk is the reason why many would choose a guided tour instead of going with the own car. We can confirm that it is not easy to drive this road. But if you still choose to go by car, go slowly and try to make some stops to enjoy the breathtaking panorama views all the way up. A lot of times wild horses and cows can block the road, but don't worry, that gives you plenty of time to take some spectacular shots of the wildlife at the mountain. Arriving to the Skywalk you come to a parking where you can leave your car. Right in front of the main attraction.
The Skywalk Biokovo
Before entering the Skywalk you should clean your shoes on the shoe cleaner right before the entrance.
Now you are at a high of 1.128m above sea level. If you are brave enough to step on the glass you will be enchanted by the spectacular view over the Makarska Riviera, the Sea and the islands of Hvar and Brac. WOW! A view that we have never experienced before.
The Skywalk is build in a U shape. It goes up to 12m away from the cliff.
You have enough time to enjoy the view, but the park ranger will tell you to move if you are spending too much time at one spot. If its not too crowded, they will leave you as much as you want.
Eat & Drink
On the Skywalk there is a little souvenir shop where you can buy drinks. On the half way up you will find a restaurant with traditional Croatian dishes. Enough parking space and a playground for kids you can find in front of the restaurant. We have checked the restaurant on Tripadvisor and Google and it has over 1.300 reviews with a average rating of 4,5 out of 5.
There is also a little stand where an old men sells home made honey and liqueurs made with love. Definitely a good souvenir from the mountains.
Conclusion - Is it worth ?
We would say, absolutely worth it! From the panoramic view all the way up, to the breathtaking view from the Skywalk itself. Such views and experiences stay with you for a life time. A highlight was definitely seeing wild horses on the way and buying home made honey from an old men in the middle of the mountain.
In few years the Skywalk will most probably be overcrowded so use the opportunity before it gets to popular.
