Skywalk Biokovo is a new attraction in Croatia. A must-see, they say. Located on Mount Biokovo at an altitude of 1228 meters above sea level, it offers you a spectacular view of the sea and islands.
Skywalk has attracted not only tourists from all over the world but also numerous famous actors, football players and many other stars. Photographers and influencers have taken the best shots on Mount Biokovo and published pictures that have become world-renowned.
Just hype or is it really worth visiting?
Enjoy the morning or go at sunrise Since the temperature can be very high during the summer season, the suggestion is to go in the morning. You can also avoid traffic if you decide to go before 8:00. The standard procedure for getting tickets is to go to the official website of the nature park and choose a date & that’s it. You must book it in advance online and come prepared with your tickets at the entrance to the nature park.
The solution to avoiding traffic jams and buying tickets independently is to choose guided tours of local tourist agencies in Makarska. These agencies do not have to wait at the entrance to the nature park and get the tickets directly from them.
If you are more of a romantic type of person, go around 6 pm and enjoy the spectacular sunset that will take your breath away. A view that you will remember for the rest of your life.
How to prepare for a trip to Skywalk Biokovo
Arrive on time. If you have booked your tickets, arrive at least 20 minutes before your booked time. You should bring water, sunglasses, sunscreen, a sun hat and warm clothes. Even in summer it can be cold up there. Be prepared for a narrow street. The street to the Skywalk is the reason why many would choose a guided tour instead of their own car. We can confirm that this road is not easy to drive. But if you do decide to go by car, go slowly and try to stop a few times to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views all the way up. Many times wild horses and cows can block the road, but don’t worry, this gives you enough time to take spectacular shots of the wildlife on the mountain. Arriving at the Skywalk, you will come to a parking lot where you can leave your car. Right in front of the main attractions.
The Skywalk Biokovo
Before entering the Skywalk, you need to clean your shoes with a shoe shiner right before the entrance. You are now at an altitude of 1,128 m above sea level. If you are brave enough to stand on the glass, you will be enchanted by the spectacular view of the Makarska Riviera, the sea and the islands of Hvar and Brač. WOW! A view like we have never experienced before. The Skywalk is built in the shape of the letter U. It is up to 12m from the cliff. You have enough time to enjoy the view, but the park ranger will tell you to move if you spend too much time in one place. If it is not too crowded, you will leave as much as you want.
Eat & Drink
There is a small souvenir shop on the Skywalk where you can buy drinks. Halfway up there is a restaurant with traditional Croatian cuisine. There is ample parking space and a playground for children in front of the restaurant. We checked the restaurant on Tripadvisor and Google and we have over 1300 reviews with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5. There is also a small stand where an old man sells homemade honey and liqueurs made with love. Definitely a good souvenir from the mountain.
Conclusion – is it worth it?
We would say, absolutely worth it! From the panoramic view all the way up to the stunning view from the Skywalk itself. Such views and experiences stay with you for a lifetime. The highlight was definitely seeing wild horses on the road and buying homemade honey from an old man in the middle of the mountain. In a few years, the Skywalk will most likely be overcrowded, so take advantage of the opportunity before it becomes popular.
